EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

Three people were arrested after a sheriff's deputy was shot in the abdomen with an air rifle.

Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore says Alex Rendon shot one of his deputies with a Crosman M-417 air rifle early Saturday morning.

It happened after two deputies pulled over a dark colored Camaro on Miller Street in East Prairie. Moore says the driver, Laura Chimienti, called Rendon's sister Clarissa. She denied making the call when deputies asked her about it.

Clarissa Rendon's brother, Alex Rendon, had two felony warrants, so the deputies suspected Chimienti placed the call to warn Alex that deputies were nearby.

As Deputy Marc Tragesser placed Chimienti under arrest, he heard a pop, felt a very sharp pain in his abdomen and realized he had been shot. Then, as he ducked for cover, Deputy Tragesser saw Alex Rendon run into a neighboring house with what looked like an assault rifle in his hand.

The sheriff believes Alex Rendon got close to the car and shot Deputy Tragesser. The pellet did not pierce Tragesser's skin.

Deputies searched the home with the help of two East Prairie police officers and found the Crosman M-417. They also found Alex and Clarissa Rendon inside the house.

As Alex Rendon was arrested, he allegedly stated that next time, he was going to kill Deputy Tragesser. According to Sheriff Moore, Clarissa Rendon tried to fight the deputies as they arrested Alex. She was also arrested.

Deputy Borders found two glass pipes with residue from meth and marijuana use inside the home.

After his arrest, More says Alex Rendon admitted to jail staff that he had fired the gun.

The Crosman M-417 is a 0.177 caliber air rifle built on an AR-15 platform with a firing velocity up to 660 feet-per-second (450 mph). According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 200,000 people have been injured by this type of weapon over the past decade.

Alex E. Rendon, 25, of East Prairie, is charged with first degree assault on a law enforcement officer, second degree assault, violating an order of protection, and non-support. His bond is set at $101,116.

Clarissa "Reese" Rendon, 32, of East Prairie, is charged with hindering prosecution and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $25,000.

Laura Chimienti, 29, of East Prairie, is charged with hindering prosecution and possession of a controlled substance. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
