OAK RIDGE, MO (KFVS) -

Oak Ridge has one of the best schools in the state.

Despite being one of the smallest schools in the state, it's been named in the top 10 percent of all Missouri school districts.

School leaders call it the intervention program. They say it all starts when kids walk in through the door for the first time. They do a pre-test to figure out where students may need more attention. The goal is to turn those weaknesses into strengths.

"I don't want to see any students behind," said Diana Roethemeyer. "I want them to work to their full potential."

The way the school does that is with individualized attention.

"Well, it's small," said Katelyn Oehl. "You get a lot of the one-on-one. The teachers can slow it down just for you."

The program gives students who may be falling behind in a subject or lesson more attention in that area. Generally, teachers say it takes place during class and a few students meet with another teacher to reinforce those skills.

Adrian Eftink is the elementary school principal in Oak Ridge. He is one of the people who helped start this program.

Eftink said the focused attention keeps students from falling behind and in some cases pushes them to even levels that may be outside their grade level too.

Teachers say the program gets results.

Another reason school leaders attribute to their high scores is simply the teachers. For example, Ms. Roethemeyer started out as a student teacher and has been here for 10 years now.
