REYNOLDS COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The National Park Service and the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail partners will have a public re-tracement of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.

The event takes place on Friday, October 11, at 1 p.m. in Centerville, Missouri.

According to organizers, the event commemorates the 175 Anniversary of the Cherokee removal.

There will also be a public unveiling of official national historic trail signs.

The dedication and unveiling will be held at the Assembly of God Multi-purpose Building at 2244 Highways 21 & 72 in Centerville, Reynolds County.

Participating in the event will be partners and officials from the Cherokee Nation, Trail of Tears Association, Reynolds County, Missouri Department of Natural Resources-Division of State Parks, Missouri State Historic Preservation Office, The Doe Run Company and Mark Twain National Forest.

Aaron Mahr, NPS Superintendent of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, will unveil the new signs on this 31-mile stretch of the trail.
