City of Troy opens "Miracle League Playground"

TROY, AL (WSFA) -

The City of Troy is officially opening its new "Miracle League Playground" for children.

The new playground is built so that all children, including those with disabilities, can play and have fun.

City officials say seeing the community come together is amazing. In just two years, citizens helped raise more than $247,000 to build the park.

"So many people in the community just came out of nowhere, out of the blue, with surprise checks, and having their own fundraisers," said Dan Smith, Director of Troy Parks and Recreation.

The playground is actually just Step 1 to a new park. The city is planning to expand the walking trail around it and has hopes of adding a pavilion and more greenery.
