MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Family members of the late civil rights pioneer and longtime WSFA 12 News employee, Arlam Carr, are confirming funeral plans.

Carr's visitation will be held Saturday, October 5 at St. Paul AME Church, located at 707 East Patton Avenue in Montgomery. The visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Funeral services will take place immediately afterward at 11 a.m. at the same location.

Carr, the son of Montgomery Civil Rights activist Johnnie Carr, etched his place in history when he was named as the lead plaintiff  in the 1964 lawsuit to desegregate the Montgomery Public School System. The case was eventually decided by the United States Supreme Court when Carr was just 13-years-old. He would later go on to become one of the first African-Americans to graduate from Sidney Lanier High School.

The soft-spoken man worked for most of his adult just blocks from the high school where he graduated as an integral member of the WSFA 12 News family.

He worked his way up in the Production Department at WSFA, beginning as a Stage Hand, then as a Master Control Operator, then as a Director of Newscasts. He directed the 6:00 and 10:00 O'Clock Reports for years before helping launch Today In Alabama, as Director of that newscast.

He was one of the longest-serving members of the WSFA 12 News family, dedicating nearly 40 years to the station.

Carr passed away in his sleep Thursday morning following a battle with throat cancer. He was just 62 years old.
