Smithland woman, 2-year-old injured in rollover crash

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Smithland woman and a 2-year-old were injured in a rollover crash Friday afternoon in Livingston County, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky State Police, it happened around 4:15 p.m. near Smithland.

Teala R. Owens, 22, of Smithland, Kentucky, was driving north on KY 137/River Road in her Ford Taurus.

Then, she reached down to get something from off the floor when she lost control of her car.

Troopers say the car went off the right shoulder of the roadway. After overcorrecting several times, the car went down an embankment and overturned a number of times throwing Owens, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, out the side window of the car. A 2-year-old child was restrained in a child safety seat in the back of the car.

The car came to a rest on its top in a field.

Owens was able to make her way to the car and get the child out of the safety seat.

According to police, Owens received a number of non-incapacitating injuries during the collision. The child was taken to an area hospital for non-apparent but possible injuries.
