TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Tuskegee University will hold a memorial service in remembrance of Bobby "BJ" Smith Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Tuskegee University Chapel. Counseling sessions will also be available.

In addition to the memorial service, Tuskegee University is setting up a scholarship in the slain student's honor.

Smith, 21, of Atlanta, Georgia was shot in the back Friday night at an unauthorized block party. He was rushed to an area hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. Friends say he was a new father with a baby less than a month old.

The party was taking place on East Church Street in Tuskegee between the parking lot of the Macon Co. Department of Human Resources and Deville Apartments.

"The Tuskegee University community is mourning the unfortunate loss of one of our own," said Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon. "We are all deeply affected by this terrible incident. Our prayers and condolences are with the [Smith] family..."

Smith was a senior finance major at Tuskegee and was an athlete on the tennis team. A vigil was initiated by the Student Government Association to remember him Saturday night at the tennis courts.

Smith's body has been turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy has already been performed.

The Tuskegee Police Department and Alabama Bureau of Investigations are still looking for suspect. No motive is currently known.
