Six Flags New England holds annual blood drive

AGAWAM, MA (WSHM) -

Saturday marked the opening night of Fright Fest at Six Flags New England.

To celebrate buzz for the fall season, the theme park held its annual blood drive.

Nearly 100 people made their way to the park's human resources department to donate blood.

Six Flags chipped in with a free ticket to the park for each person who donated, but those in attendance said it was about more than just a free pass.

"How many times can you tell someone, 'I saved a life today,'" said Sara Martin, of West Hartford, CT. "That's pretty great."

"I know there's a need and even though I hate the process, I know it should be done," said Agawam resident Mikhail Klakotskiy.

The weekend of giving continues at Six Flags on Sunday. Park officials are asking guests to bring new or gently used coats to donate to the Springfield Rescue Mission.

Each person who donates will get a discount on park admission.
