The No. 23 UT Martin Skyhawks spoiled Southeast Missouri State's home and conference opener, winning 17-7 Saturday in front of 8,000 fans at Houck Stadium.
The Skyhawks took a 17-0 lead at halftime thanks to a 35-yard TD pass from Dylan Favre and a 9-yard touchdown run from Najee Ray. UT Martin out-gained Southeast 238-164 yards on the ground.
Southeast couldn't find a consistent offensive attack, as starting quarterback Kyle Snyder struggled to find a rhythm. Scott Lathrop came in for Snyder in the first half, and the two swapped series in the second half before Lathrop finished off the game. Lathrop completed 8-16 passes for 71 yards and ran for 64 more. He helped lead SEMO to its only touchdown drive of the game in the 4th quarter, culminating in a 2-yard TD run by Ron Coleman.
The Redhawks fall to 0-4 with the loss and 0-1 in OVC play. UT Martin improves to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the OVC.
Southeast travels to Tennessee State next Saturday while UT Martin hosts Jacksonville State.
