Hearing continued for man accused of using son as human shield

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The man who is accused of using his own son as a human shield has had his arraignment hearing continued after appearing in court on Monday. The new arraignment hearing date has been set for Oct. 31.

Michael Prater was charged with child abuse after investigators said he used his 5-year-old son as a human shield.

Prater was wanted for two felony warrants. Investigators said while searching his home last December, they found him in a crawl space beneath the floor. They said he was lying on his back, holding his son over him like a shield.

He will appear in Lauderdale County court on Oct. 31.
