DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

A Dothan mother is now facing manslaughter charges after the weekend death of her 6-month-old child, according to the Dothan Police Department.

An investigation started around 10:30 a.m. Sunday when Dothan police and fire medics were called to a home in the 600 block of Ashland Dr. on a medical emergency call.

When authorities got to the scene, they reported finding unresponsive and not breathing. The baby was taken to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center where medical professionals tried but were unable to revive the child.

Dothan Police Criminal Investigators responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Following the investigation, authorities arrested and charged 35-year-old Andrea Lenette Culver, with manslaughter. No details were given regarding evidence against Culver or the baby's cause of death.

While investigators will not discuss details of the ongoing investigation, a person who answered the phone at the home where the mother and child lived said the death was an accident caused when the baby became caught between a mattress and a headboard.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
