CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

A groundbreaking was held Friday for a new health center in Carterville.

The ceremony was at the new construction site just off Route 13 in Carterville.

The $24.5 project will build a state-of-the-art cancer center.

It'll also be a huge economic shot-in-the arm for the town of Carterville.

"The economic impact of sales and the traffic that will be created from it, and also the jobs that will be created by this," said Carterville Mayor Brad Robinson."Fifty to 60 people will be employed at the cancer center. Twenty-five of those will be new employees. That benefits Carterville and all of southern illinois greatly."

The new cancer center will be 42,000 square feet and will bring all facets of cancer care under one roof.
