LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Hundreds of Kentuckiana adults with special needs walked down the red carpet to cheering fans Friday.

More than 970 guests came to Southeast Christian Church on Blankenbaker Parkway for a Hollywood-themed night of dancing, dinner, games and a salon to get their hair and makeup done.

"There are hundreds of people in our community that oftentimes get overlooked and neglected," said Dave Stone, the church's pastor. "Tonight, they feel really special and loved."

More than 1,100 church members volunteered their time to organize the event and "escort" the adult guests throughout the church.

"It's all about shining, having fun and watching them do what they do best -- which is to enjoy life," said Rick Nally, a church volunteer.

For the second straight year, Nally escorted Rachel Brentzel, who has a brain injury and is deaf in her left ear.

Brentzel stopped at the salon before moving onto dinner.

"I feel like a princess for the night," she said. "It's a good feeling."

The event is in its fourth year, and has grown each year, Stone said.

"There are so many great stories that come out of it because of the way their eyes light up," he said. "For them, it's the most enjoyable night of the year."
