CENTERVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Middle Tennessee nurse is out of the hospital, and off the job, after she became the focus of a state investigation into the treatment of an elderly patient.

Saint Thomas Hickman Hospital is a 25-bed facility, where patients come in for everything from emergencies to speech therapy to elderly care.

But one of the nurses, Michelle Gordon, is accused of hurting one.

Gordon has been licensed in Tennessee since 1999 and works in the hospital's nursing home.

Hospital officials received a complaint about alleged inappropriate activity and turned the case over to the state's adult protective services to investigate.

Gordon had no comment about the situation when contacted at her Centerville home.

As for Saint Thomas, officials won't disclose the nature of Gordon's job, how long she's been working at the facility or if she has ever been in trouble before now.

In a statement, the hospital said:

"The well being of the residents of Saint Thomas Hickman nursing home is of the utmost importance to us. We were made aware of inappropriate actions by a staff member that was inconsistent with expected behaviors of a Saint Thomas Hickman associate and that associate is no longer with the organization."

As for whether other patients or families should be concerned, a hospital spokesperson said they believe this was an isolated incident and they don't expect any one else to come forward.
