West Springfield police captain allegedly involved in three prisoner abuse cases

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

According to our media partner, Masslive.com, West Springfield Police Capt. Daniel O'Brien was involved in three cases of abuse with prisoners. Officials confirm O'Brien allegedly lied on three official documents.

This information comes after an independent investigation was released by the West Springfield Police Department.

Police said the abuse consisted of prisoners being kept in a restraining chair. The photo shows a victim with her mouth taped.

State and Federal officials have not filed charges against O'Brien, but investigators say the case is not over.

O'Brien has been on paid administrative leave since September of 2011 when he was accused of mistreating a woman who was detained at the Big E that year.

Mayor Greg Neffinger said the police chief would make a recommendation about what to do with Capt. O'Brien. Neffinger said he expected to make a decision by the end of October.
