Sun to start, but scattered rain on the way

Posted: Updated:

With the chilliest air so far this week in place, the earlysunshine will be a welcome sight to help boost temperatures into the upper 60sand mid-70s.  However, as the day warms, more cloud cover will move through, as a cold front to our west builds into theregion.  Areas of Western NC that borderTennessee could see an isolated rain shower at any time today, but for the restof us, expect to stay dry through mid-afternoon.  Tonight, temperatures will drop into the 50sarea wide, and rain showers will begin to pop into our region once the sunsets.  Rain and storms both become morelikely on Thursday, with the brunt of the moisture to move through betweenlunch and dinner time.  Once the frontpasses in the evening, we'll quickly begin to clear out the skies, bringingovernight lows into Friday morning down into the 40s and low 50s.  Plenty of sunshine keeps daytime highs Fridayand through the weekend in the 60s to low 70s, but with clearer skies overnightand winds from the north overnight, expect lows to drop into the 40s and low50s each night.

FOOTBALL FORECAST:  Fridaynight looking clear and dry for high school sports.  Players, it'll feel great for you astemperatures drop into the lower 60s, but fans, you'll want to have a jackethandy as it will cool quickly.  Plus, a hugegame scheduled this weekend, with ESPN's college game day back to Clemson onSaturday for Florida State @ Clemson.  Tailgatingwill be gorgeous, with temperatures in the low 70s, and partly cloudyskies.  There are some rain chancesUpstate, but should generally stay in areas south and east of the I-85line.  Game starts at 8pm, and whether ornot you're sensitive to the cold, you're going to want to bring at least alight jacket.  Temperatures will dropinto the low 60s and Upper 50s by the time the game is done, and into the lower50s before sunrise Saturday.
