(CNN) - Bank of America is considering a new account option for customers that would be free of overdraft fees.
The account would automatically prevent customers from withdrawing more money than they have in their account.
Currently, the bank already stops customers from overdrawing at the point of sale, if they don't have the funds.
But customers can still overdraw using other transactions, such as automatic bill payment and checks.
Currently, the bank charges customers a $35 fee each time they overdraw their account.
Even if the new checking account is introduced, Bank of America will still offer its existing checking account, with overdraft protection, which will remain unchanged.
Bank of America wouldn't comment on specifics of the potential new account.
