Inexperienced driver crashes into Bellevue home

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A woman practicing for her driver's test was trying to pull a car into a space, but instead of stopping, she crashed through the brick wall of a home in Bellevue.

Six people were inside at the time, and none were injured.

Staci Harwood says she was upstairs when she suddenly heard a loud crash.

"There was nothing but a car in the living room. The two younger kids were pressed up against a closest. Obviously they saw it coming," Harwood said.

Harwood had been babysitting Brittany Thames' three children, who were playing right where the car crashed just minutes before it happened.

"I am really just blessed," Thames said. "I am honestly just so thankful that we all have our kids and nobody was hurt."

Police believe an inexperienced driver was behind the wheel when it plowed into Harwood's home in the 7400 block of Highway 70 South.

Investigators say the 44-year-old woman claims she hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.

"As long as I have her and the other three are OK, I am good," Harwood said.

To make matters worse, Harwood says her boyfriend recently lost his job and right now she can't babysit at their town home.

Harwood says they were told the home is not safe, and the American Red Cross is assisting her family.

Police said they don't intend to charge the driver, since it appears to have been an accident.
