CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Southern Illinois University's ROTC Program could use your help this weekend.

The program will hold it's Fifth Annual 5k, 10k Run Saturday morning.

The event usually benefits the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna, but his year the program will get part of the money raised.

That's because the government shutdown affected their bottom line.

"We weren't able to do a couple of our training exercises we usually do every year," said Captain Matt Morse, SIU ROTC. "We still need money to operate in our training environment and that's the kind of purpose of this race is, to raise to help us train out students."

Last year the event raised about $1,000.

If you want to help out the starting line is at Kesnar Hall on the SIU Campus and the race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.
