CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

According to the Mississippi County sheriff, an East Prairie woman is facing felony drug charges after she was found with a controlled substance in the county jail.

Cindy Davidson, 56, of East Prairie, Missouri, was charged with one count of delivery/possession of a controlled substance in a county jail, a class C felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Davidson was booked into the Mississippi County Detention Center, with bond set at $25,000.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, Davidson was booked last weekend following an arrest for DWI.

A corrections officer noticed a small pill bottle in her purse and found that it contained a prescription pill. The pill was later identified as Alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled substance.

The pill was turned over to the jail administrator to be placed into evidence and submitted to the SEMO crime lab.

The following day, a deputy conducted an interview with Davidson, during which she claimed to have a prescription for pill found on her.

After the interview, Davidson was allowed to contact her pharmacy to request verification of that prescription be sent to the sheriff's office.

After getting the request, the pharmacy notified the sheriff's office that Davidson had not been prescribed any controlled medications during the preceding year.
