GOODLETTSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The future of sales of The Contributor newspaper in Goodlettsville remains in limbo after Thursday's city commission meeting.

The commission delayed a vote on second reading to tighten rules for sidewalk sales, which would have banned sales of the newspaper. The commission tabled the motion to its November meeting.

Supporters of the ordinance said it was a matter of safety and no one should hand anything to a driver from the sidewalk or street.

Opponents argue that the ordinance was targeting sales of The Contributor, a newspaper sold by the homeless or formerly homeless that focuses on issues in their community.

One Goodlettsville resident who sells the paper said she hasn't been able to sell in her own community.

"I've tried to see in Goodlettsville," said The Contributor vendor Vanessa Newcolb. "It's given me a living."
