CASA GRANDE, AZ (CBS5) -

Deputies working a DUI Task Force in Casa Grande area Sunday night didn't have to go far to arrest one suspected drunken driver.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said the sheriff's K-9 deputy was stopped alongside the roadway at Peart Road north of Cottonwood lane to help the DUI Task Force with an arrest when a 22-year-old woman slammed into the side of his vehicle.

Police said Amanda Leyvas drove into the front passenger side as the deputy was about to get out of the car, and just missed hitting two other marked PCSO vehicles and two deputies.

Authorities said Leyvas and her passenger, Terry Sigarroba, were both believed to be drunk. Neither was hurt in the crash.

Leyvas was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol, aggravated assault and criminal damage, while Sigarroba was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of the Casa Grande City Court for interfering with a judicial proceeding.

The deputy was taken to Casa Grande Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. His K-9 was taken to a veterinary clinic as a precaution.

In all, 16 people were arrested Sunday night by the DUI Task Force.
