Mayor: School benefits not a planned cut

COLLIERVILLE, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A local mayor says officials are not planning on cutting current benefits to school employees.

Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner sent a letter to eight of the Collierville school principals assuring employees the municipal school transition will not impact their benefits.

"I realize how important salary and benefit packages are to your employees. We have no plans to diminish any benefits. In fact, we will work to ‘insure' that no current benefits are compromised under the new municipal school system," he wrote in the letter.

Collierville is planning on opening municipal schools in August 2014.

Joyner said in a statement Monday that officials are doing everything they can to make the transitioning process as smooth as possible.
