PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

As the community comes together to make a Port Clinton boy's last days special with an early Christmas, people from the world have reached out to Devin Kohlman to do the same.

Devin is battling brain cancer, but doctors haven't given him an optimistic timeline. Now his family and neighbors have rallied together to bring Christmas to him early, and thousands of cards and gifts have come through the Port Clinton Post Office for Devin.

Devin's stepfather Tim Beverly has made it a part of his daily routine to load up his SUV with crates of letters and packages from the post office.

"It's been amazing," Beverly said. "It's overwhelming, actually."

He says the cards and gifts have been pouring in for Devin as the 13-year-old continues to fight for his life. They're making sure he knows he's loved.

"You can't see the walls," Beverly said. "All the walls are plastered with cards. Like I said, we've opened every one of them, hung them on the walls. We're stringing them on cords now."

The family says packages are arriving from Texas to Canada, but as the love grows worldwide, Port Clinton police are asking people to stick to mailboxes to show their support.

"With Devin's condition deteriorating, they're requesting more of a private time for close family and friends," said Police Chief Rob Hickman. "We're trying to respect those wishes and see that that's being done."

While the family says they can't thank everyone enough for their kind words and prayers, they've had so many people, even from out of state, stop by wanting to see Devin, that they've had to put a sign on their door.

"He's just really tired. He's been through a lot," Beverly said.

Police have increased patrol around the house to make sure it remains a peaceful environment for Devin. They say anyone who wants to give him a gift can also drop it off at the police station.
