Voters head to polls before they close at 7 p.m.

The race for Virginia governor is coming to an end.

Tuesday's election caps a race driven by negative ads, and unrelenting accusations of unscrupulous behavior. Turnout is expected to be low for the gubernatorial showdown between Democrat Terry McAuliffe, Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Libertarian Robert Sarvis.

All three candidates began their day in Northern Virginia where they cast their ballots. Cuccinelli and Sarvis will both be in Richmond awaiting election results. McAullife will be in Tyson's Corner.

Senator Ralph Northam (D) and Chesapeake minister E.W. Jackson (R) are vying for lieutenant governor. The race for lieutenant Governor could determine who controls the Senate.

Another race of note, Senator Mark Obenshain (R) and Mark Herring (D) are locked in a tight race to become the next Attorney General.
