TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

For all practical purposes, this was an attempted murder caught on tape.

Authorities say a local guy was apparently minding his own business at Palo Verde Bar and Grill last month, when he was confronted by several people, one of whom decided to pull out a knife and stab him.

For investigative purposes, the Pima County Sheriff's Department isn't releasing footage of the stabbing itself.

But when we asked the lead detective on the case his interpretation of what happened, his answer was very clear.

"How confident are you he's the one who did that stabbing?" Tucson News Now asked Pima County Sheriff's Detective Andy Anderson.

"I saw him on the video do the stabbing, so I'm pretty confident," he said.

Anderson says it happened in the early morning hours of October 26th at Palo Verde Bar and Grill near Palo Verde Road and Drexel.

It's unclear what started the fight that night between a 20 year old man and several people inside the bar.

"There appeared to be a large group of individuals what were all focused on that one subject," Anderson said.

But it escalated quickly.

So much and so fast, the victim was bleeding on the floor before anybody had any idea what happened.

"The contact continued," Anderson says.  "There was some hits, some kicks and at one point you see the male subject stab twice."

In real-time, it's difficult to see what happened.

But when we slow it down, you see a younger looking man in a UA sweatshirt put something in his front pocket.

Detectives say it's the knife he used to stab the victim before quickly walking away.

The suspect is described as a Native American man between 20 and 30 years of age.

He's 5-8 with a medium build and long dark hair.

Based on this incident alone, authorities consider him armed and dangerous.

And shouldn't be confronted by anyone other than law enforcement.

If you have any information about this suspect, call 911 or 88-CRIME, the Pima County Attorney's anonymous tip line.

A reward up to $1,000 will go to the person whose tip leads to an arrest in this unsolved case.
