NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The high school student accused of murdering a man for $7 at a north Nashville market had his first court hearing Friday, and the judge ruled the teen is dangerous enough to keep behind bars.

Now, a clearer picture is emerging about the young man's past from those who tried to help him.

Veretez P. McGill, 15, was arrested this week at Stratford High School and charged with criminal homicide and aggravated robbery.

Police said Darrell Lyndell Wright was shot and killed Aug. 11 at Church and Son Market on 15th Avenue North. Two people walked into the store, one with a gun and another with a knife, and ran out with $7 in cash.

Investigators are continuing to confirm the identity of the second suspect in the murder.

"What went wrong in his life, what made him take this path, I can't explain," said Metro police spokesman Don Aaron.

Police used forensic evidence and witness descriptions to link McGill to the crime.

McGill already has a criminal history, and the juvenile court judge said Friday he's dangerous enough to keep locked up.

McGill waived his right to appear in court, and Wright's family members who showed up to the hearing in hopes of seeing the boy accused of killing their loved one didn't get that result.

Anyone with any information on the identity of the second person involved in Wright's murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
