NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Two New Madrid County deputies were injured after a police chase Thursday night.

A woman now officially faces charges in connection with a police chase, in which two new madrid county deputies were hurt.

Jessica Diane Fox is charged with stealing a motor vehicle, assault - intoxicated with alcohol or drugs, three counts of assault - recklessly causing serious physical injury, and resisting arrest.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens says a sheriff's deputy stopped to check on a woman who was outside her parked car on an overpass near north New Madrid along I-55 around 10 p.m. Thursday. The officer believes the woman was under some sort of narcotic substance.

Sheriff Stevens says the woman resisted going into custody.

The Missouri Highway Patrol arrived and assisted in putting the woman in a highway patrol vehicle.

Stevens says the woman somehow got her handcuffed hands from behind her and took off in the highway patrol car.

During the chase, Stevens says the woman hit two New Madrid County vehicles.

The chase went south on I-55, then north on I-55. Stevens says, at one point the woman drove the wrong way on the interstate.

He says she exited I-55 at Marston, took Hwy. EE and turned on to County Road 314.

Then, Stevens says the woman hit another highway patrol vehicle and ended up in a field a couple miles north of Portageville.

That's when she was taken into custody.

Two sheriff's deputies have minor injuries.

In another twist, as one of the deputies was waiting for a wrecker to pick up his car after it hit spike strips during the chase, a semi hit it and the car hit the deputy. He was taken to the emergency room and is one of the three sheriff's deputies with minor injuries.

Traffic was backed up for about two hours from the 44 to 40 exits in the southbound lanes of the interstate following the crash.

An investigation is underway.
