Deal reached to pursue new Nashville baseball stadium

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville mayor's office says it has reached an agreement with the state, the Nashville Sounds and a developer that will allow the city to build a new minor league baseball park near downtown.

Details of the proposal and financing plan will be released Monday to members of the Nashville Sports Authority and Metro Council, according to the announcement Friday afternoon.

The proposed stadium complex would be located on what is now state-owned property near Germantown between Jackson and Harrison streets, as well as Third Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North.

Designs for the stadium include views of downtown along with 8,500 fixed seats. The proposal also includes a 1,000-space car lot to the south of the ballpark and a pedestrian greenway.

The mayor's office said the city is working toward an opening date in time for the 2015 season.
