A new park has opened in Cape Girardeau, but this time it's for the dogs.

Dog Town Playground officially opened with a ribbon cutting Saturday at Kiwanis Park. Hundreds of canines and people were on hand to experience the first park of its kind in the area.

The park is fenced off in two sections: One for large dogs, and the other for smaller dogs. The park is also equipped with hydrants and fountains.

The Cape Girardeau Park and Recreation Department built the park provided by $25,000 funded by the Isle of Capri Casino city taxes.

It's open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
