Great-grandmother dies in Cheatham county fire

ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

A Cheatham county house fire has taken the life of a beloved great-grandmother. While investigators try to determine what caused it, the community is offering prayers and support.

"I miss her," said David Munsil. "I miss her already."

Munsil said he'll always remember the tender heart of his mother, Ann Williams, and the way she took him in during his time of need.

"I got sick with cancer, and she let me come in and stay with her because I was living on the street," said Munsil. "I'm a whole lot grateful for her."

Munsil and his mother were at their Hill Rd. home in Cheatham county Saturday morning when the fire started.

"Right in front of the fire place caught on fire, and my bed was right there next to it, and it caught on fire," said Munsil. "I was trying to get it out. Mama went toward the kitchen to try to get some water. It trapped her inside the house, and the back door was blocked off so she couldn't get out."

With crews unable to get inside because of a refrigerator blocking the back door, Williams passed away in the fire.

"They told me I had second degree burns on my hand," said Munsil.

Treated and released from the hospital, Munsil said his mother was a woman who knew everyone in Ashland City, in large part, because of years working the deli at a grocery store now known as Cashsavers. She was known to everyone as simply, 'Miss Ann.'

Munsil added, he's going to live with his brother for the time-being. Funeral arrangements for 'Miss Ann' are still being made. Her family said she was a great-grandmother to 16 kids.
