SYMSONIA, KY (KFVS) -

A two-vehicle crash that happened Sunday evening in Symsonia is currently under investigation.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on KY 131 in front of Symsonia Elementary School and involved a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation shows Baleda Johnson was driving her car north on KY 131 when she saw a pedestrian, 16-year-old Cherish Willis, in the road.

Johnson tried to avoid hitting Willis but could not.

After the crash, Johnson pulled her car over to help and call 911.

Before she could do that, a second vehicle hit Willis.

Willis suffered significant injuries to her leg and face and was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
