The Palmer Board of Registrars sets date for casino vote recount

Posted: Updated:
PALMER, MA (WSHM) -

There will be a recount in Palmer and it will be the final chance for Mohegan Sun to see if voters support their plan for a billion dollar casino.

The Palmer Board of Registrars has set a date for a casino vote recount to Nov. 26.

Mohegan Sun and the Yes for Palmer Committee filed a petition Friday, Nov. 8 for a recount of the Nov. 5 referendum vote in Palmer.

The casino proposal was defeated by 93 votes.

Mohegan Sun and the Yes for Palmer Committee released this statement after the decision saying, "We're disappointed and surprised that the town has chosen to delay the recount a full three weeks after the Nov. 5 referendum, and two days before the busy Thanksgiving holiday.  After such a close and emotional election, voters on both sides of the issue deserve a timely and accurate recount of all ballots."
