Former NFL player, Trent Shelton, visited Southern Illinois University Carbondale, but not to talk about football.

Instead, Shelton spoke about the difficulties of life and staying on track. While Shelton was known as a wide receiver on the field, he has grown in popularity off the field as an inspirational speaker and created the organization "Rehab Time." The organization helps anyone of any age deal with stress, including the national hot topic, bullying.

"On my Facebook I get hundreds of messages a day from kids that are being bullied that are thinking about suicide," Shelton explained. "It makes you look like, 'Wow'. And I think as adults, we take the term bullying loosely, and not realizing that bullying isn't anything but hating what we go through."

Shelton said he's no stranger to being bullied, but in an adult way.

"So I get bullied on a daily basis on my Facebook page all the time," he said. "People saying this and saying that, and so I can deal with it because I know where it comes from. What I try to do with the kids is showing them where that hate is coming from. It's nothing you're doing wrong, you're doing everything right, its just something that they might have inside of them.   It's their call out for help or their insecurities. So, I tell them to give love back to that hate because that's how you kill hate, I feel."

Shelton is also co-author of the best seller "See My Heart Not My Past." He said he hopes students will leave his presentation with a championship mindset- to reach their full potential.
