MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama State University is confirming that one of the four finalists who was seeking the position of president has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Dr. Jorge Haddock will no longer seek the position, ASU spokesman Ken Mullinax said.

"We thank Dr. Haddock for his interest and accept his withdrawal," ASU Presidential Search Committee chairman Judge Marvin Wiggins said in a statement provided by ASU.

Dr. Haddock did not give a reason for the withdrawn application, but Wiggins said, "Many times in the final process of people seeking new positions, you have candidates withdraw their names from consideration, and this is one of those examples."

Wiggins said he looks forwards to interviewing the other three finalists in December. Those finalists are retired Brig. Gen. Samuel Nichols, Gwendolyn Boyd and Sen. Quinton Ross.

ASU says it hopes to have a new president named by early in 2014 despite calls from Alabama's governor and several groups on ASU's campus who believe the search should be halted until issues dealing with a scathing audit are addressed.
