WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) -

With less than two weeks until the big feast, we've got some good news for shoppers who still need to pick up stuffing and green beans.

The American Farm Bureau Federation reports the average cost of this year's Thanksgiving dinner dropped about a percent.

So, what sort of items can you expect to see a bit cheaper this year?

When Americans are used to seeing the cost of prices going up each year for their favorite turkey day staple food items, saving a few bucks here and there is good news.

According to store owners, prices are going to continue to drop until the big day.

With thanksgiving just around the corner, it's time to hit the grocery store and dive head first into the aisles to get your perfect turkey day spread.

But as you start crossing off the items on your list, you might notice: the price of that Thanksgiving feast is a bit cheaper this year.

"I think they are good, really good," said a customer.

Especially if your spread includes the usual turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, peas and cranberries.

"And she calls it gobble, gobble day," said another customer.

More like cheap, cheap.

"That helps," said a customer.

Bless the bird for the decline, the total number of turkeys went up 4 percent from last year. Costing Americans less than $50 for a 10-person feast.

If you put off picking up the goods, there's some strategy to that.

Store owners say it's only going to continue to go down.

"Best time of year for us, thanksgiving and Christmas," said Tom Schmutz the owner of Tom's Mad Pricer.

Giving consumers a little more to be thankful for.

"Maybe have a little extra out on the table," said another customer.

Sweet potatoes, whole milk and pumpkin pie mix are slightly more expensive this year.
