Despite win, Gamecocks drop in AP poll

COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) - This is the third time this season that the Gamecocks have won and dropped in the AP Poll. Head coach Steve Spurrier saw his team drop a spot after the 28-25 victory over UCF and the 35-28 win over Kentucky.

The Gamecocks (8-2, 6-2) have been ranked 60 consecutive weeks in the poll, which extends their school record-long streak. South Carolina is tied with Stanford for fifth-longest current streak of being ranked in the AP Top 25.

Alabama continued its perfect season and hold onto the top spot in the poll after defeating Mississippi State 20-7. Only Florida State received first place votes aside from the Crimson Tide.

Auburn, Missouri and Texas A&M all moved up a spot in the poll on Sunday thanks to a 20-17 road loss by Stanford to Southern California. Auburn stunned Georgia at home with a fourth-and-18, 73-yard touchdown pass to move to 10-1 with only the Iron Bowl against the Crimson Tide remaining. The Tigers are now ranked No. 6.

Missouri moved to No. 8, despite their bye week, and have a road contest at Ole Miss and home game against Texas A&M left in their season. Two wins puts them into the SEC Championship Game in only its second year in the league. Texas A&M moved to No. 9 nationally while on a bye.

Clemson ranks at No. 7 after the Tigers beat Georgia Tech Thursday.

LSU was ranked No. 18 nationally entering the week and the Tigers, too, had Saturday off. The Tigers remained steady in the polls.

Georgia, with its loss at Auburn, fell from the poll. Ole Miss moved back into the AP Top 25 on Sunday after registering a 51-21 home victory against Troy in nonconference play. The Rebels are ranked No. 24 nationally.
