MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery County Commissioner Dimitri Polizos has won the special election for Alabama's House District 74.

Polizos beat former Montgomery Public School Board President Charlotte Meadows in the Republican runoff Tuesday. Polizos will go to the Legislature because there's no Democratic candidate.

With 23 of 24 precincts reporting, Polizos received a total of 2,146 votes or 57 percent. Meadows received 1,601 votes. The 24th box is provisional and is expected to be counted Nov. 26.

There are 23,024 registered voters in the district and 3,747 ballots cast.

Meadows and Polizos were in a runoff after beating Heather Sellers in the three-candidate primary in October. Polizos led that race.

The District 74 seat was previously held by Rep. Jay Love who resigned.

Polizos will be sworn in after the election results are certified official in 10 days. His representatives say they are aiming for a swearing-in ceremony on December 5.
