MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Clyde the turkey is safe for another year. Governor Robert Bentley pardoned him Wednesday morning at a ceremony held at the Governor's mansion on Perry Street.

First Lady Dianne Bentley was also present at the ceremony. The Governor also added that the Thanksgiving holiday is his favorite.

The pardoning of the turkey is an event that dates back more than 60 years, starting with Governor "Big Jim" Folsom in 1948.

The turkey is provided annually by Fort Deposit's Bates House of Turkey. This is the first year of the pardoning without the man who started it all. Owner Bill Bates passed away in August at the age of 89.
