BROOKPORT, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police say catastrophes can bring out people who prey on victims. Troopers are warning tornado victims to be aware of the possibility of looters and scam artists.

Police say to never give personal information over the telephone, such as your social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, credit card number or bank PIN number, unless you initiated the call.

Also concerning cleanup efforts, volunteer registration will begin on Saturday, November 23 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is at the old Veach’s service station located at the intersection of Illinois 145 and US 45.

The Illinois Department of Transportation and Massac County Highway Department will begin large debris removal the morning of Monday, Nov. 25. Debris should be placed curbside and should not block roadway.

The ISP will continue to have saturated patrols in Brookport. A curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. will remain in effect.

Illinois State Police would like to thank the public for staying out of the damaged areas of Brookport during the tornado restoration process. Police say it keeps traffic from becoming congested.
