MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Kentucky State Police have charged an employee of the McCracken County Sheriff's Office for sexual abuse and official misconduct.

On Friday, November 22, McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden was contacted by the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women in Pee Wee Valley, Ky.

Correctional staff informed Sheriff Hayden of a complaint against a transport officer employed by the sheriff's office. They say an inmate at the facility reported that she had been inappropriately touched by the transport officer while being taken from the McCracken County Jail to the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women. The incident was reported to have taken place on Nov. 14.

After receiving the complaint on his employee, Sheriff Hayden contacted the Kentucky State Police in Mayfield to investigate.

The investigation revealed that the offense took place in Oldham County resulting in a dual investigation with troopers at the State Police post in Campbellsburg. After an investigation by troopers and detectives, an arrest warrant was obtained.

James Beyer, 57, of Paducah was arrested and charged at the McCracken County Sheriff's Office just after 8 p.m. on Nov. 22.

Beyers has been charged with sexual abuse second degree and official misconduct first degree. Both charges are class A misdemeanors.

Subsequent to the arrest, Beyers was terminated as an employee with the McCracken County Sheriff's office by Sheriff Jon Hayden. He is being taken to the Oldham County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police.
