Sheriff gives holiday shopping advice

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Jefferson County, Mo. Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer advised that as the holidays approach, they encourages citizens to remember to practice good crime prevention when shopping and running errands.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office provides these tips to prevent crime that work year round: 

  • Remain alert in parking lots
  • Don't weigh yourself down with so many packages
  • Be aware of your surroundings and personal safety
  • Try to park in well lit areas if you will be leaving or returning to your car in the evening
  • When shopping hold onto your purse
  • When loading your purchases place your purse into the car first
  • Do not leave your purse or other purchases in your car in plain sight
  • Lock your car
  • Secure packages in your trunk
  • Do not place items on top of your car
  • Report any suspicious activity to police
