ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

6-year-old Sophia Padgett is sidelined from her tumbling and cheering activities. Just prior to competitions, her cheer group was putting on a cheer exhibition for friends and family.

Her mom, Valerie Padgett, said the family didn't realize Sophia was hurt right away. "Sophia does a front walkover, cartwheel, and when she was going into her backbend is when she hurt her arm."

Sophia said she knew something was wrong. "First they called my name and I was doing my tumbling. I was doing my 3rd one and my arm just came out from under me."

"She's normally the type of kid that can usually shrug it off and move on", said Valerie.

"It hurt a lot", added Sophia.

She was taken to the ER, where x-rays were taken. Her mom said she and Sophia's dad were given a term they were not familiar with.

"They told us she had broken both her belt bones in her forearm. The doctor called it a 'green stick break.'"

That means the breaks weren't complete. But both bones still had to be set.

So she won't compete for a while. Mom said the cheer squad is allowing Sophia to still be part of the group. "She can still do the dance and do part of the routine, but during the tumbling passes she will have to stay at the back at least until that twelve-week mark."

And right now, Sophia says she's already feeling better. "The tumbling is good. It helps me. And I really want to get back to doing it, because that's the thing I love to do about cheerleading."

Sophia says she's very anxious to get back to tumbling. That's because she has a very special goal.

"Cheer for the University of Alabama. Roll Tide!"
