CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Quite a few shoppers braved the cold weather and started their holiday shopping a little early this year.

"We do this every year," Chelsea Criddle said. "We are sisters. It's a tradition. It's like our bonding moment of the year. We always find good deals and it is just really fun."

"It's fun," Beverly Carter said. "It's cold out here but you get used to but it is something new and exciting. I think it's exciting."

"You owe me Jessica," Jason Mayfield said. "Jessica is my wife."

Shoppers we spoke with say they were focused on a few items and didn't stray away from their game plan.

Meanwhile because so many stores opened Thursday evening, Black Friday morning was much quieter than years past.

"I was like who this is crazy this is new," said Anna Husted. "I was able to walk right through and get what I wanted."

Stores like Target say they had packed store from the time they opened Thursday evening until four hours later at midnight. From then on, it was stead, but less hectic than in years past.

Store managers tell us they believe shoppers are still spending as much, they are just pacing out their buys over a longer period of time.

"I will also wait to shop until Black Friday," said Lisa Husted. "Thursday is for families. People can go out if they want but I won't do it."

Several of the large retailers offered ongoing waves of discounts and specials through the day to try and lure shoppers back multiple times.
