State Christmas tree arrives at AL Capitol

Posted: Updated:

The official state Christmas tree has arrived at the Alabama Capitol, a highly visible way to kick off the 2013 holidays along Montgomery's most historic stretch of roadway.

The tree, an Eastern Red Cedar, was placed in its traditional spot at the top of the Capitol steps on the building's west side facing Dexter Avenue.

The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held Friday, December 6 starting at 5:15 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Garden Club of Alabama.

Officials say the tree was grown in Bullock County and is around 36 feet tall.

It was donated by Elisabeth Thompson, owner of the Feathers Plantation in Fitzpatrick.
