CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau police have one person in custody after finding drugs in a home near an elementary school.

Cape Girardeau police and members of the SEMO Drug Task Force searched a home in the 1500 block of Themis just across from Franklin Elementary School Monday afternoon.

Police found an alleged growing operation of mushrooms and found other controlled substances.

Christopher J. Campbell, 35, of Cape Girardeau is charged with a class A felony of attempt to produce a controlled substance, a class B felony of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and class C felony of unlawful possession of a firearm.

His bond was set at $100,000.

Franklin Elementary Principal Dr. Rhonda Dunham says it was a little disturbing that drugs were allegedly being removed from a house a few concrete slabs away.

"I am very upset that it was done," Dunham said. "I think about all the students that walk back and forth to school not only at Franklin but the junior high and middle school. What would have happened if something happened to the house when they were walking by? It kind of makes you shutter a little bit."

Dunham said she plans on using this as a teaching point for students.

"You don't want that to happen," Dunham said. "You don't want to have to teach your kids about drugs and what to look for but again we have to and in today's society that's something we have to do."
