MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Starting November 4 of this year The Boeing Company Political Action Committee provided checks in varied amounts to several influential Alabama politicians.

Attorney General Luther Strange, Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives Mike Hubbard, and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh all received cash donations to their campaigns worth $1,000.

In total, The Boeing PAC (BPAC) provided $7,000 in contributions to a small handful of politicians.

"You know Boeing, as many others in Alabama and beyond have contributed to my campaigns ever since pretty much I've run for office" said Sen. Marsh, R – Anniston, "I did not actually solicit a campaign contribution but I've received one and I was proud to receive it."

WSFA 12 News confirmed that the BPAC had actually decided on the political contributions months ago but the checks weren't delivered until November.

The timing of the payments is noteworthy because they came within days of Boeing's talks with a machinists union breaking down.

Boeing later reopened the competition for the production of the 777X aircraft.
A Boeing spokeswoman provided WSFA 12 News with a statement that reads, "Boeing's political action committee takes an ethical and bipartisan approach to supporting those who support the policies that are most important to our businesses in both the commercial aviation as well as defense markets. This includes elected officials with Boeing employees or facilities in their states, such as Alabama.  Boeing supports an estimated 16,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state."

The City of Huntsville and the officials with the Alabama Department of Commerce received a Request for Proposal (RFP) from Boeing in recent weeks, asking for a pitch from the state for the 777X aircraft. State and city officials won't comment on the contents of the RFP.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has said publicly that Boeing has set a December 10 deadline for states to respond to the RFP. Missouri's Legislature is currently meeting during a Special Session to formulate tax incentives for Boeing to select St. Louis as its destination.

Boeing already employs 15,000 people in the St. Louis area.

WSFA 12 News has confirmed that Department of Commerce officials have been working on a proposal for Boeing and Governor Robert Bentley's office has said that the state will "aggressively pursue" the Boeing project.
