MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

An Auburn firefighter is filing a federal lawsuit against the city he works for claiming racial discrimination.

Christopher Turner has worked as a firefighter for Auburn since 1987 and he's claiming that he's been repeatedly passed over for promotions despite being more qualified that younger, white candidates.

Turner's attorney says after going through the process to become a lieutenant in 2011, Turner was ranked last as a result of the test assessment.

The suit, filed in federal court in the Middle District of Alabama names as defendants the City, the fire chief and deputy fire chief, the city's human resources director, the public safety director, the mayor and the city manager. It also requests a jury trial.

Turner has previously filed lawsuits in 1991 and 2005.

When asked for comment, the City of Auburn responded, "As common procedure, the City of Auburn does not comment on personnel issues or active litigation."
