HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) - We're counting down to Christmas with sweet treats! This week's Heartland Cook from Harrisburg, Illinois loves to make candies she calls Martha Washingtons. They're a coconut-stuffed chocolate that Amber Hill remembers from childhood. Now she enjoys making the sweets with her children at Christmastime.

Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened) or margarine
  • 1 package Almond Bark (or chocolate chips)
  • Optional: 3 cups pecan pieces
Directions:

Mix condensed milk, butter and coconut flakes. Add powdered sugar and stir well.

Melt chocolate over low heat in saucepan or in chocolate melting pot.

Form coconut mixture into balls approximately 1 inch in size. Place on wax-papered cookie sheet one inch apart.

Put cookie sheet in freezer for 2-3 minutes until balls firm up.

Dunk coconut balls into melted chocolate to coat. Immediately replace balls on cookie sheet.

When cookie sheet is full, put back in freezer for 5- 10 minutes to cool.

Enjoy!
