Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jo-Ann Farmer said Robert "Bernie" Allen, 59, of Battletown died of blunt force injuries. The father of three and grandfather of six was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday, about 90 minutes after the accident.

Police said Allen, a worker at Kosmosdale Cement Factory, was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck in the 15000 block of Dixie Highway around 7:40 Tuesday night while trying to stop traffic to allow a piece of construction equipment to cross the highway. He was wearing a reflective jacket and holding a stop sign, but the driver told police he didn't see Allen. No charges are expected to be filed.
